#First28

[KTOV] First 28- Get my migo on the phone!

Happy February! To get into the “groove” of posting more frequently and creating content, I’ve decided to do a playlist this month celebrating Black History Month. Black History and culture are the themes for this month’s playlist. Each day will recognize a song by a Black artist and hopefully tie into a numerical motif.

Keep checking back on this post to learn a little about the song of the day and how it relates to the date! And if you really wanna know what’s up, find the playlist on Spotify

Day 1: Feeling Good, Nina Simone

It’s a new dawn It’s a new day It’s a new life For me And I’m feeling good

As we enter into a new month, Ms. Simone’s openness to change and growth is inspiring and definitely apropos for the Day1 of #First28

Day 2: Just My Imagination, The Temptations

Each day from my window, I watch as she passes by. I say to myself, you’re such a lucky guy. To have a girl like her. She’s surely a dream come true.

Today’s song choices alludes to the movie #GroundhogDay and imagination!

Day 3: Tell Me Something Good by Chaka Khan and Rufus

Today’s #First28 pick pays homage Chaka Khan, who paved the way for women in rap in R&B to embrace their worth and demand for excellence from those they interacted with.

You ain’t got no kind of feeling inside
I got something that’ll sho’ ’nuff set your stuff on fire
You refuse to put anything before your pride
What I got will knock all your pride aside

Tell me something good
Tell me that you love me, yeah
Tell me something good
Tell me that you like it, yea
h

Upon listening to this timeless classic this morning, my ears were opened like never before. Ms. Chaka Khan was one of the first in R & B to vocalize her worth and what she was bringing to the table. There wasn’t any back-and-forth or situation ships, or misunderstandings. The object of Ms. Chaka Khan’s words was sure to reciprocate energy. And I would be remiss if I didn’t assert that without Tell Me Something Good, there would be no Feeling Myself, no ICY Girl, nor any of the other baddie anthems that boost that foreshadow a successful night out and add the perfect tone to our IG captions. And so today, and everyday here after, I challenge you all to embody the confidence encapsulated in this song- and demand something good, something consistent, something sustainable from each and every romantic partner.

Day 4: Snap Yo Fingerz featuring E-40

Today we pay homage to the hypest in the west, Mr. E-40. Thank you for providing the soundtrack to countless “functions.” And s/o @savvvysav for the artist recommendation!
